DVRT AND ME
Do you love Facebook memories like I do? I love the reminder of the exact date of an event, moment or thought. Well today good ol' FB marked the official six year anniversary since I created and taught my first DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training specific class at Five Points Academy. At the time, I believe this was the first group fitness class based on Ultimate Sandbag training. Back then, I would have been happy with just the classes. Who knew where my passion for DVRT and the Ultimate Sandbag (USB) would take me?
I was introduced to Ultimate Sandbags 7 years ago by my buddy, mentor, NYHC legend and fellow DVRT Master Instructor, Gavin Van Vlack. Ahead of his time, Gavin had clear sight on the connection between kettlebells and Ultimate Sandbags. After Gavin's introduction, I immediately hopped online. looked up sandbags and that my friends is how I first heard of DVRT creator Josh Henkin.
Since those early days, I have had the amazing opportunity to teach DVRT throughout the United States and as far as Japan and Australia. I also created and taught my Original Strength/DVRT: Dynamic Strength workshop. It has been a dream. More importantly, I have gotten to learn from and become friends with Josh, Jessica, the leadership team and the attendees of the various courses and presentations. I have had the chance to share what I love with others. In turn, those wonderful people will be able to help other people realize the benefits and glory of DVRT. I don't want to make a ripple here folks. I want to make a wave.
To be sure this isn't just about me being sentimental, I want to share 3 things you should know about DVRT.
- DVRT: Dynamic Variable Resistance Training is a fully realized training system. We are not just about exercises being performed with a sandbag. The principles of DVRT can be applied to almost any type of training. Our system has logical and easy to follow steps to progress and regress movements and to set people up for absolute success.
- You DO NOT need to buy a ton of Ultimate Sandbags to get started. I normally suggest only 1-2 at the beginning. The magic within DVRT is that we view strength as something beyond just adding weight to a bar. We can make you train very hard for a very long time with one USB.
- DVRT is extremely accessible. Due in part to the nature of the USB and the depth of the system, ANYONE can train with DVRT Ultimate Sandbag Training.
It's a new year and and an anniversary I am very proud of. Big thanks to Josh, Jessica, Gavin, James Newman, Steve Milles from Five Points Academy and the DVRTT team for supporting me on this journey. It has been one hell of a ride! I can not wait to see where were at in 6 more years!
